On a well-loaded 100A service already feeding a heat pump and an electric range, there may not be room for a 48A charger without an upgrade or a load management device. On a 200A service with headroom, the install is straightforward. The point of the calc is to tell you the honest answer before anyone spends money: your panel has room, your panel needs a load manager, or your panel needs an upgrade to carry the charger safely.
From there, the install is a dedicated circuit run from the panel to your charging location, the breaker sized to the charger, the receptacle or hardwire connection made to code, and the whole job permitted through Cabarrus County and inspected.
